About
Carlos Batallas is a “professional” expatriate, married with 3 children. Fascinated by the speed of change in the world and its impact in normal life, he is a curious person always ready to learn something. He still keeps his long-lasting relation with classical music and literature, with ups and downs depending on the workload. Very eclectic, he likes XX/XXIth century literature as well as best-sellers although sometimes he hides them beneath a Kafka’s book to keep up the intellectual image! Now, he is learning playing piano.
He works as a delegate of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and holds a degree in Political Sciences and a Certificate of Research Proficiency in International Relations. After have helped creating the Humanitarian Aid Department of the Spanish NGO “Movimiento por la Paz”, he joined the ICRC in 1996. He has worked in the former Yugoslavia, Rwanda, Congo, Colombia, Angola, Namibia, BiH, Israel and in Geneva’s HQ in charge of the Balkans, EU/NATO and Turkey. He is currently in Guatemala as Head of the ICRC office there.
During his humanitarian career, he has been confronted to the management of complex operations, multi-cultural teams, changing priorities and multi-tasking with a problem-solving attitude. He follows up developments in International Relations and is a good political analyst.
This blog speaks about the things I am interested in. I am not trying to get a big audience but just to share with some friends and other people the things I read in the web and beyond. It goes from technological things to just curiosities or some articles that I find useful to share.
