Enrique Dans has written this post on Netbooks. He is more on the line of using Linux for this new segment based on quality, facility and stability. However, the bulk of new owners of those Netbooks will come from PC windows-based and it is important to realise that we do not have the expertise or the time to go for a new platform as Linux, however good it is. I have though many times to go for a Linux PC but at the end, the laziness took over and made me retract of my good intentions. Nonetheless, E Dans has a point and is worth to read the post.

Again Gadget Lab from Wired.com speaks about Netbooks. Its theory is that taking into account their price and the similitude across brands, it is quite easy to add hardware or software that was not intended to be run on those Netbooks. So, the lure of Netbooks is still there and it seems that will be for a long time.

Desde hace tiempo se habla de racionalizar los ordenadores. Hoy en día, el modelo básico de PC es capaz de hacer cosas que jamás en la vida vamos a necesitar. Son grandes, pesados y aunque los prcios bajan día a día, siguen siendo caros. En realidad el usuario tipo, usa el ordenador para gestionar su correo electrónico, leer el periódico, mirar dos o tres páginas más y descargar archivos lúdicos. Para todo eso no necesitas esas “grandes” máquinas.

La iniciativa de Negroponte “un ordenador para cada niño (OLPC)” si bien iba dirigida a eso, a integrar el mundo de la informática en todos los países, ha dado en realidad con un filón de oro. EL modelo propuesto, barato, útil y resistente se ha transformado (o ha rellenado un nicho) en el mundo desarrollado que se ha dado cuenta que se puede navegar por internet de otra forma, más cómoda, más barata.

Todos los fabricantes están hoy de lleno en ese segmento. Un articulo de gadgetlabs, da una explicación del fenómeno y de lo que significa para el futuro. Merece la pena leerlo.

Evidentemente, yo quiero uno. Sé que es un capricho pero me apetece probar un Medion Akoya o el IdeaPad S10 de Lenovo.
